Page Transitions may show different referrers from Matomo’s Acquisition reports, and lower-ranked sources may be grouped into Others. This does not mean referral data is missing.

The Others discussed here refers to Referrers grouped within Page Transitions. This is different from URLs being grouped into Others in the Pages report because of report row limits.

Why a referrer may not appear in Page Transitions

External referrers in Transitions are specific to the page you are analysing. It does not show every referrer recorded across your site during the selected period. For example, From Websites shows referring websites for visits where the selected page was the Entry page.

This differs from the standard Acquisition reports, which provide a broader view of how traffic arrived at your site. You should not expect the sources shown in Transitions to exactly match reports such as Acquisition > Websites, even for the same reporting period.

When referrers are grouped into Others

By default, Page Transitions keeps up to five rows before grouping lower-ranked results into Others. For external referrers, this ranking is applied separately to each referrer type, such as Websites, Search Engines, Social Networks, AI Assistants and Campaigns.

The Others grouping can contain valid tracked referrers that did not rank highly enough to appear individually. The ranking is calculated for the selected reporting period. Changing the date range can therefore change which sources appear individually and which are grouped into Others.

Show more referrers with the Transitions API

  • To retrieve more individual rows, use the limitBeforeGrouping parameter with Transitions.getTransitionsForPageUrl or Transitions.getTransitionsForPageTitle.
  • The parameter does not support -1 to return all rows. To retrieve a large number of rows, specify a sufficiently high value instead.
  • The default value is 5. Increasing it returns more individual rows before the remaining results are grouped into Others. For example:
?module=API&method=Transitions.getTransitionsForPageUrl&pageUrl=https://divezone.net/&idSite=1&period=day&date=yesterday&limitBeforeGrouping=1000&format=JSON
