From Matomo 5.12.0, the AI Chatbots Real-time report is available and provides a live view of AI chatbot activity on your website.

It displays recent AI chatbot activity from your raw chatbot tracking data, including chatbot request volume, unique page URLs, and HTTP error counts. By focusing on short real-time windows, the report lets you quickly monitor AI chatbot activity and identify issues affecting the content they access.

This guide explains how to analyse the AI Chatbots Real-time reports after AI Chatbot tracking has been configured.

Before you start

To access these reports, first configure AI Chatbot Tracking in Matomo using one of the supported integrations:

Analyse AI chatbots in real-time

The AI Chatbots Real-time page includes four reports, displaying activity over two rolling time periods:

  • AI Chatbots activity in the Last 30 Minutes.
  • AI Chatbots activity in the Last 8 Hours.
  • Top Page URLs requested in the Last 30 Minutes.
  • Top Page URLs requested in the Last 8 Hours.

These short reporting windows keep the report fast and responsive.

The AI Chatbots reports summarise recent activity, including:

  • Chatbot requests: Total number of AI chatbot requests during the selected time period.
  • Unique page URLs: Number of distinct page URLs requested by AI chatbots during the selected time period.
  • Not found requests: Number of AI chatbot requests that returned an HTTP 404 or 410 response.
  • Server error (5XX) requests: Number of AI chatbot requests that returned an HTTP 5xx response.

The Top Page URLs reports show the individual page URLs most frequently requested by AI chatbots during each time period.

How to use this report

The reports help you monitor AI chatbot activity as it happens and quickly identify issues affecting your content:

  1. Confirm that AI chatbots are actively accessing your website.
  2. Verify that newly published pages and documents are being requested by AI chatbots.
  3. Detect broken pages by monitoring increases in 404 and 410 responses.
  4. Identify server issues affecting AI chatbots by monitoring 5XX responses.
  5. See which pages are currently receiving the most AI requests.
  6. Monitor short-term spikes or drops in AI chatbot activity after website changes, deployments, or content updates.

Because this report focuses on the last 30 minutes and the last 8 hours, it is intended for operational monitoring rather than long-term trend analysis.
