Configuring Evolution Graph Reports
When working with an Evolution Graph, it is important to remember that the data displayed is based on the source (e.g. website), date range, and any specified segment of data currently selected by the data selectors found at the top of the page.
Setting The Correct Date Range
With that in mind, it is important to choose the correct interval to help to reveal different patterns. For example, to find out if your website is frequently popular on certain days of the week, you will want the Date Selector period to be set to day with a date at the end of the range you’d like to analyse.
Alternatively, for weekly, monthly or seasonal patterns, you’ll want to set the period to weeks or months. And last but not least, setting your evolution graph to years will show how your website is growing (or not) over much longer periods of time.
Setting The Correct Period
While your date range is configured it is also possible to toggle between different display periods by hovering your mouse over the evolution graph to reveal a green menu in the bottom left and then clicking the calendar icon showing the currently selected period to reveal the alternative options.
Customise number of periods
Once you have selected a date range and period that you would like to focus on, it can also be helpful to focus on the number of records shown. When reviewing days, you’ll likely want at least seven days for a full week and multiples of seven for weekly analysis, e.g. 52 weeks to see a year’s worth of weekly data and so on.
You can change the amount of records shown by using the green dropdown at the bottom right of the section. In the example screenshot below, you can see that 12 records are being shown, which would equate to a year of data for monthly intervals.
Changing Plotted Metrics
If you’d like to change the plotted metrics within any Evolution Graph, click on the line chart icon shown at the top left of the graph. This will bring up a list of all metrics which are available within your current report. Click on the checkbox of any metrics within that list which you’d like to activate, and the page will refresh with your selected data.
