Visits and interactions from employees, developers, testers or partners can affect your A/B test results, particularly when they repeatedly visit pages, click elements or trigger conversions while testing different variations.

To prevent internal activity from influencing your experiment results, you can exclude internal traffic. See the guide on Excluding traffic from Matomo using IP Addresses, Cookies, and more.

Before starting your A/B test:

  1. Identify employees, partners and other internal users whose activity should not count towards your results.
  2. Configure the appropriate traffic exclusions in Matomo.
  3. Verify that excluded users’ visits and interactions are not being recorded in your analytics reports.
  4. Ideally, configure these exclusions before starting your experiment to avoid internal activity affecting your results from the start.
