Note: Superusers and users with the appropriate Tag Manager write and custom template capabilities can copy tags.
- Open Matomo > Tag Manager.
- Navigate to Manage Containers and open the container that holds the tag you want to copy.
- Go to Tags and click the Copy icon next to the relevant tag.
- By default, the tag configuration will be duplicated to the same website and container as the original tag.
- You can change this by selecting a different website and/or destination container.
- Click Copy to create the new tag.
New Tag Configuration
- If the original tag uses triggers and variables, Matomo Tag Manager will attempt to reuse existing ones in the destination container.
- If no matching triggers or variables are found, the associated triggers and variables will also be copied to ensure the tag functions correctly.
Example:
- Copying a tag within the same container will only duplicate the tag.
- Copying it to an empty container will copy the tag along with any necessary triggers and variables.
