Why does the screen resolution change in a single session recording?
Cloud Auto-hébergement
Session recordings may show different screen resolutions during a single user session, which do not match the user’s device. This behaviour is expected because Matomo records the browser viewport size, not the physical screen size. The resolution shown in the recording represents the browser window size at the time of interaction.
The viewport size depends on:
- Whether the device is in portrait or landscape mode.
- The current width and height of the browser window.
- Manual resizing of the browser window.
The viewport size does not represent the device’s full screen resolution. If a user rotates their device or resizes their browser during an active session recording, the viewport dimensions change and this is reflected in the Session Recording report.
